Michael & Sophie Perrin British & World Jet Ski Racers

About Me..

 Thanks for visiting my page. This is a bit of information about me. If you want to know more about what happens when I go racing you can follow my blog which I will be updating very regularly.

Hi – as you know my name is sophie, I live in Swindon, England with my mum - Sharon, dad - Shane, my brother - Michael, and my little sister - Bethany. I started riding jetski's at the age of 6, down in Oxford - Abingdon. I started racing three years later when I was just 9 years old. I got into racing almost by accident. My dad, and my older brother Michael and I turned up one day at our local lake – Nitrojet Action Sports near Berinsfield in Oxfordshire - there was a race event going on in the British Championship's. Watching the racing really persuaded me and my older brother Michael to give it ago, so we had to wait till the summer championship's finished in 2006.

I was so nervous in my first race, i could barely eat or drink. But i still took 1st in Novice Juniors. It took a lot of courage but I absolutely loved it! After that day there was no going back for me or Michael. We decided from that day on we were going to be jetskiers!

My mum and dad have been fantastic in the way that they have supported me over the past 4 years since I started racing. They have given up a lot of time and spent a lot of money supporting me in this fabulous sport and I really can not thank them enough for giving me the chance to do what I love best of all – race!

My mum gets very nervous for me, especially when I race against the adults. My dad is always there for me, cheering for me, he gives me a lot of heart and the courage to do well.

I do want to say a special thankyou to my coach, mechanic and sponsor Garry Smith.
Truly without all his help and support and his belief in me and my ability to race jetskis I would not have achieved all that I have done – so far. Garry gives me so much strength and courage.

I have been asked what my goals are – I haven’t really thought about that too much. All I could say was that I just want to go out and do the very best I can in every race I take part in – but also just as important for me is that I want to have fun and enjoy it. That is the most important thing for me.

Someone also asked me what the best and worst moments have been for me so far when jet ski racing – the worst moments are when the ski breaks down in a race or won’t start! Not being able to compete properly in a race really frustrates me!
The best moments for me are when I go out and race against the big boys and win! That is very special for me, as is standing in 1st place on the podium – I love that.

I thought that I would just list my racing achievements so far – so that you can see how I have been doing;

  • 1st in the British Championship in 2007
  • 3rd in World finals, age group 10 – 12 in 2008
  • Top Junior Girl at the World Championships in 2008

  • 3rd in the European Championship in 2009
